Miriama Kamo (Ngāi Tahu/Ngāti Mutunga) is an award-winning broadcaster, writer, and environmental advocate. She currently hosts Marae and previously fronted Sunday and other flagship TVNZ news programmes.

A champion for storytelling and journalism, Miriama founded the Whaitiri Mentoring programme for young Māori journalists. She is also a trustee of Kotahi Rau Pukapuka, dedicated to publishing 100 books in te reo Māori.

Miriama has written seven books, selling over 100,000 copies, including The Stolen Stars of Matariki (2018) which is a five-book Matariki series, with collaborations alongside Professor Rangi Matamua.  Miriama's books have inspired musical adaptations by the NZ and Christchurch Symphony Orchestras.

A sought-after speaker, Miriama empowers audiences to understand The 4 M’s (menstruation, miscarriage, motherhood, menopause), the power of storytelling, and environmental advocacy through a Zerowaste lens.

She serves as Patron/Te Koruru of the New Zealander of the Year Awards, where she’s developing an alumni network and a Treaty-honouring partnership model. She has also instituted a pastoral care model for winners.

Miriama is a mum of two, and an ambassador for Pillars, Charity Foundations, Breast Cancer NZ, and Endometriosis NZ. She previously served on the boards of Endometriosis NZ, Save the Kiwi, and The Arts Foundation, Te Tumu Toi. Miriama is committed to lifelong learning and uplifting women's and Māori voices. She is a leading voice in New Zealand’s event circuit as an MC and keynote speaker.
